Puzzle Toive Jansson: Play

The image on the puzzle is a detail from a sketch by Tove Jansson (1914-2001) for her mural Play. Tove Jansson painted the beloved mural for the staircase of the children’s outpatient clinic in the Aurora Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, between 1955–1957. The mural had been commissioned through a competition that Tove Jansson entered by submitting various sketches. These sketches are now included in the HAM Helsinki Art Museum’s collection. The mural features Moomins running up the stairs. The original work is still in the Aurora Hospital, and a copy was created for the staircase of the Children’s Hospital in 1998.
