Tove Jansson (1914 - 2001) was an amazingly versatile artist who made her mark in many creative endeavours, including the beautification of urban spaces from the 1940s onwards. This richly illustrated volume introduces readers to Jansson's imaginative visions of paradise especially through the murals she painted in public spaces. The comissioned murals she painted during the postwar reconstruction era convey her desire to spread joy, beaty and harmony and dreams of a better tommorrow.

The key recurring elements in Jansson's public paintings and foregoing paradise-themed art were things dear to her: the sea, plants anf flowers, and cavalcades of whimsical characters and fairytale creatures, including the beloved Moomins. The articles in this book are authored by PhD-holding experts on Tove Jansson's art Sirke Happonen, Asta Kihlman and Johanna Ruohonen and HAM Helsinki Art Museum's curator Heli Harni.
